This AVLAB Meeting is being held in collaboration with the In-Sonora Sound and Interactive Art Exhibit, with the participation of Alejandro González Novoa, Josu Rekalde, and Pedro Palhares Fernandes.
For the second consecutive year, AVLAB Meetings is carrying out a joint activity with the In-Sonora Sound and Interactive Art Exhibit, which includes the festival programme and the ongoing activities of AVLAB at Medialab-Prado.
In-Sonora is promoting an annual encounter bringing together sound/interactive installations and objects, experimental events, debates and presentations, as well as generating a file documenting works of this kind.
The 17th AVLAB Meeting is hosting three sound artists with multi-disciplinary backgrounds from Argentina, Spain and Brazil.
The work of Alejandro González Novoa, Josu Rekalde and Pedro Palhares Fernandes will be shown, in the form of installations and workshops, at the venues where In-Sonora events are being held. AVLAB Meetings offer a module where the public can meet with these artists, focused on the informal exchange of information about the methodologies used in their creations.
In-Sonora 2007 also took place with the collaboration of Medialab-Prado at the 8º Encuentro AVLAB (8th AVLAB Meeting) on 13 October 2007.

Ideosonics and the Study of Deconstruction
At the AVLAB Meeting, Alejandro González will divide his presentation into two parts, enabling broader access to artistic, technical and conceptual details related to his creative work:
I. Ideosónica (Ideosonics): A set of sound video installations composed based on the forms of waves and WABS produced by audio programmes, where images refer to sound.
II. Estudio de Deconstrucción (The Study of Deconstruction) (for object and MAX msp patcher): Use of a simple acoustic sound object that will be transformed to maximize its sound resources into a complex work. In the second part, Alejandro Gonzalez will present a demonstration in real time with acoustic objects and the Max msp.
Alejandro González Novoa is a composer, sound artist, concrete cellist, teacher and music therapist. His work combines various media such as sound installations, sound performances, and musical composition through electronic deconstruction. As a university professor, he teaches Sound Dramaturgy, Sound Trajectory, and The Poetics of Noise in Argentina and Spain.
He has been a resident at the Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln KHM (Germany -2001/2002); Künstlerhäuser Worpswede (Germany -2006); Césaré Centre National de Création Musicale (France - 2007); among other renowned institutions.

Playing at destroying screens
Josu Rekalde reflects on concepts such as the interactivity, manipulation and industry of the mass media, taking interactive interfaces and electronic art as a starting point. He will present some samples of interactive videos to show us details of his work process based on the simple use of different electronic materials.
Creation and Research in the field of soundscapes
Pedro Palhares Fernandes is offering a fusion between an artistic and a didactic presentation, in which he will create a sound atmosphere that will serve as the basis for his talk. His presentation will focus on the expanded concept of a soundscape. He has been investigating the subject since 2004, and it has generated a series of artistic installations and the theme of his first solo show in 2007 at the Paços das artes institution in Sao Paulo.
Among the reflections proposed for the AVLAB Meeting, Pedro will invite us to think about the limits among soundscapes and composition, inverted technologies and shot/reverse-shot applied to building with noise. He will also raise questions about interactivity in melody lines and perception related to momentary noises.
Pedro Palhares Fernandes lives and works in São Paulo, Brasil. His work includes various artistic projects including photography, film, video, music, multimedia installations, and happenings. He has participated in short film festivals, musical competitions, and exhibits including: Ocupação (Paço das Artes, São Paulo, Brazil /2005), La Collection Paiva (Théâtre de la Photographie et de l'Image, Nice, France /2005) and Brasilien Gesichter (Ludwig Museum, Koblenz/2005).
For the experimental short film "dá-dos", he received the Best Soundtrack Award at the Primeiro Plano – Short Film Festival in Juiz de Fora – Minas Gerais, Brasil (2003); Premio de destaque a la investigación de Lenguaje at the 8th Brazilian University Film Festival – Rio de Janeiro (2003); and an Honourable Mention from the Brazilian Short Film Directors and Producers Association. Pedro acts along with the visual arts production and distribution centre at the Oficina de la Luz, a project for which he was one of the founders.
