Second working session of the workgroup #bookcamping, literature, free culture and publising (dis)organization on the topics of Open Licences and Publishing Distribution. Guests (from 6 pm on): Traficantes de Sueños Collective.
In this second session we will delve deeper into the stormy sea of open licences from the vantage point of the theory and practice of the new publishing (dis)organisation. In the first part, we will comment on a text fragment dedicated to the publishing of the mythical Copyleft, Manual de Uso (2006, Traficantes de Sueños), and we will review the range of licences most commonly used by publishers and authors in the realm of Libre Culture. We will posit virtues, contradictions and tensions generated by these distribution practises.
In the second part, we will be visited by the members of the Traficantes de Sueños collective http://traficantes.net/, who will share their nearly decade-long experience in
publishing/distribution/sales with open licences. Together, we will touch base on some of the key concepts dealt with by the work group (the digitalising of the publishing sector, the importance of community, the sustainability of these projects, the viability of creating alliances through common platforms), and we will review some of the past and current paths trodden by various representative texts published by Traficantes de Sueños, in order to illustrate the subject matter at hand.
Text for the debate: Chapter 3 (El copyleft en el ámbito de la edición), from the book Copyleft, manual de uso
