In 1958, the first video game was created by a physicist during a laboratory experiment. Tennis for two was played on an oscilloscope screen. The affiliation between video games and laboratories in some way still exists; this medium is in constant innovative and experimental flux. The democratization of development tools has brought an outburst of independent productions. This capacity of production outside of the commercial routes is bringing more creativity to this medium as new narratives come out and new interfaces are incorporated. Ground-breaking interfaces are generating new mechanics and dynamics to the game that can be seen in the commercial sector with Nintendo WII. We now have available more tools that allow us to leave behind the classic format of video game consoles and computers and create games with an alternative format such as geolocalised games using mobile devices with GPS or redesigning the playability of old games with new interfaces.
