This Seminar, conducted by María Isabel Jociles (Complutense University of Madrid) and David Poveda (Autonomous University of Madrid), will address the topic of single-parent families; new family models and learning among peers online, where communities choose to discuss non-traditional family models.
The seminar offered by María Isabel Jociles (Complutense University of Madrid) and David Poveda (Autonomous University of Madrid) is titled Forums for mothers/fathers single by choice, communities for workshops and learning. It presents part of the results of a broader social and anthropological research project centered in single-parenthood by choice. By analyzing virtual activity in different online platforms focused in single-parenthood and its different means of approach (adoption or assisted reproduction), the seminar features how these spaces become learning areas for peers -understood here as the concept of “Community of Practice” (Lever and Wenger, 1998)-, serve as a platform to approach questions such as the construction/definition of a family model and relativize expert´s knowledge as well as create a space for the normalization of these families. Data has been gathered through numerous interviews and document analysis." By María Isabel Jociles and David Poveda.
