Software Art is an artistic discipline that uses the code as a form of expression. Free Software comes with a license to copy, modify, and distribute it. Free Art Software is an artistic code that can be studied, modified, translated, and exhibited, because permission to do so has already been granted.
Producing, distributing, and preserving electronic art works presents challenges quite different from traditional art works. These characteristics are even more extreme in the case of software art, art works that consist specifically of computer codes, because copyright legislation makes access to these works difficult. Free Software Art permits copying, modifying, and distributing codes freely, with no limitations. Free software licenses make it easier to produce, distribute, and preserve electronic art.
