Workshop: Gaming to Understand: The Gender Experience in Video Games

30.01.2012 17:15h

Place: Medialab Prado · Plaza de las Letras, C/ Alameda, 15 Madrid

María Rubio Mendez presents a workshop which intends to offer an overview of the different ways in which video games can be experienced from a gender perspective.

Activity within the framework of the 6th International Conference on the Philosophy of Computer Games

"Through the analysis of several videogames, we will reveal the different representations of women that appear in this medium and the plurality of interpretations that can be given of them depending of the different attitudes towards the fictional universe of video games.

In this workshop we propose a gaming session in which two different forms of practice are to be carried out while gaming: a practice of analysis of the symbolic universe of video games, and a practice of experimentation with gender identity.

At the end of the workshop a brief discussion will be held to draw conclusions, which will be included in a document that is to be published together with the Conference proceedings." By María Rubio Mendez
