Imaginary

Paper by Domenico di Siena held on November 13th, 2007 within the context of the Visualizar 07 Simposium, a broad program of research, reflection and production activities about data visualization and its social, artistic and cultural applications. The first edition took place at Medialab-Prado from November 12th through 28th, 2007.

“Imaginario”, the project presented by Domenico di Siena, focuses on the relations between physical and digital space, as well as between information and politics, as a collective construction revealing the desires of a specifically identified community.

Its aim is to explore and know more about the collective imagination. Based on a semantic model, the collective imagination will be visualized, using size and colour parameters to transcribe the importance and positive or negative connotation of words. A second model will establish the relations among the words. Lastly, this visualization model will be projected onto a geographic map, thus facilitating knowledge of the connections between an opinion and the sociology of a neighbourhood, established by prior studies.
