Proposed and coordinated by Andoni Alonso and Antonio Lafuente.

The objective is to gather the terms and concepts forming common culture(s). If defining a concept implies to limit its meaning with words and show the implications of its use, building a dictionary means to create a new life and to view the wide spectrum of common goods. The project does not suppose any previous philosophy, but it supports multiple points of view and the various traditions that form what is common. [+info]

 

An Audiovisual Library as Commons

Proposed and coordinated by Tíscar Lara.

Demands the right to access and use audiovisual archives of media communications and promotes the research for solutions to freely use these archives because; in a way they produce historic memory and the collective imaginary.

Common Body

Proposed and coordinated by Jaime del Val

Proposes to criticize the new categories in the power implicit in post-postmodernism, which operates giving shape to the body's desires and affections. The project proposes to study new technologies of control operated through non–verbal affective intensities within the audiovisual culture (sounds, choreographies, images).

Legal Free Ontology

Proposed and coordinated by Javier de la Cueva.

Proposal of a free legal ontology for the creation of a structured data base that will follow Open Government Working Group's principles.

We will start by formulating concepts relative to a legal rule, for which we propose a grammar with 13 terms:
Norm, international treaty, constitution, organic law, legal decree, decree-law, setting laws, framework law, regulation, decree, and order of ministry.

This year the relationship between the terms listed below and the RDF representation language will be studied.

Commons's Esthetics and Promotion Policies

Proposed and coordinated by Jordi Claramonte, María Carreño, David Arroyo, Cristina San Juan Guiatia, Mercedes Simón, and Vanesa Sánchez.

Basic elements to create a theory on the Commons Aesthetics, recover aesthetics as a theory for sensibility and go beyond the limits of art.

Obsoletos

roject conceived by the collective Basurama for the research, creation and spread of creative systems for the transformation of technological waste, which includes all electronic and storage devices and hardware that is now out of use or damaged such as computers, peripherals, magnetic tape, motherboards, etc.

This Season, Obsoletos plans to structure, think, define and catalogue concepts related to the obsolescence of the products we use, especially electronic devices.  This could be treated almost like an ontology or a wiki in which terms of divers meanings like “chassis”, “fashion”, “LCD” or “retro compatibility” would be isolated and defined in an animated conversation, around half a dozen terms per session. We are interested in graphically representing the final reflections and conclusions and also considering the experiences of other Commons Lab members that already work in this subject.

Fluxstudio- Multimedia Creation and Free Software

Proposed and coordinated by Jay Barros

From the network of Madrid's free creators we would like to debate about the importance of using free tools for artistic creation. With this objective, we propose Fluxstudio, a distribution of Linux that includes all free software tools that are necessary for multimedia creation.

The group is addressed to programmers, developers and visual, sound and performance artists interested in the use of free software tools.

Project for the translation of Yochai Benkler's “The Wealth of Networks” into Spanish

Proposed and coordinated by Florencio Cabello

The proposal to translate into Spanish Yochai Benkler's book The Wealth of Networks: How Social Production Transforms Markets and Freedom will bring the non-commercial remix by Creative Commons Non Commercial- Share Alike license  (the same that Benkler chose to publish his book) and the opportunity to get in contact with the author and its enthusiasm toward the project. In addition, the project aims to go deeper into a line of research which started in 2008 as part of the class Technology of Audiovisual Communication taught by Florencio Cabello at the University of Malaga (UMA) searching to encourage the discussion about Commons and cyberspace in an accurate Spanish edition of some of the most prominent works in this field.

Commons Ecology: Civic Participation and Information Visualization

Activities of this group will begin on February 10  with a workshop-presentation.

The group aims to work using the project “Digital narratives for the common participation in the management of coastal ecosystems” as a platform for debating. Starting from this project we propose:

• to generate collaborations in order to improve proceses and methodologies.
• ot create debate spaces to present the project (its methodology, goals and results) and analyze it in a critic way generating a discussion with the experts team of the Commons Lab.
• to offer the Commons Lab different case studies that wil serve as a reflection elements about the nature of the Commons.
