The project lamusediffuse "No List Available. Web 2.0 to rescue Libyan museums from institutional oblivion" focuses on the specific case of the museums of Libya and is based on two facts: the first is the lack of information on Libyan museums on the website of the International Council of African Museums (AFRICOM) and the second is the apparent lack of websites on the museums in this country.
Consequently, the objective of our project was to overcome both of these circumstances by means of the following initiatives:
- To overcome the shortcomings of Web 1.0 by using a methodology based on the use of social web tools (Web 2.0) as a alternative option for the exchange of information that is flexible, interactive and participative,
- To compensate for the lack of contents on Libyan museums on the AFRICOM website by compiling, contrasting and structuring the information available on this subject in the Internet,
- To draw up a reference map that will allow users to participate and locate the Libyan museums,
- To create a methodological model for small museums and museums in developing countries or in countries that are engaged in conflicts, which is affordable from the point of view of finance and technical maintenance,
- To prove the academic usefulness of the social web and its tools as valid and effective instruments in research,
- To increase the awareness of the fact that Libyan museums have been left in institutional oblivion in the Internet, compared to those in other parts of the world,
- To encourage museum professionals to use Web 2.0 tools as an affordable, simple and efficient solution for overcoming the possible lack of personnel, tools or technology,
- To underline the importance and the role of Jamahiriya Museum in Tripoli and improve its visibility in the Internet for an international audience,
- To create a document of reference on Libyan museums to be published under a Creative Commons assignment license and for non-commercial use.
