La Cosa VS Serrería alludes to the materialization process, in architectonic form, of a programme for contemporary creation in the heart of a public institution. This virtual confrontation is the setting through which it is possible to question the interventions by multiple agents giving form to the project and defines the playing field from which the process will be launched.
If the cornerstones of a cultural institution are independence, transparency and porosity, can they be guaranteed by a particular type of architecture? Is there a physical or mental region where we can situate a programme for contemporary creation? We propose to examine the specific case of Intermediae/Prado and its project at Serrería Belga, considering the ideas guiding the creation of a programme for contemporary creation, and the architecture to house it. We will study the relations established between those ideas and architecture and then look at issues that will help us explore the terms of context, cultural institution and architecture.
