New technologies, together with the attempt to turn something ethereal and impossible to hoard, such as intellectual property, have sped up the collision of law with everyday and socially-acceptable practise. While the music and film industries fight for the permanence of the classic notions of intellectual property, new movements are looking for ways of re-formulating and undermining them. P2P downloads, copyleft licences and notions such as "collective intelligence" are starting to become part of everyday language in certain areas, committed to the idea that the way to defend culture is by sharing it. This session will present the problems and some of the proposed solutions by both sides in the conflict.
