Adrian Holovaty is a journalist, Web programmer and founder of EveryBlock, a local news site for select American cities.
Combining backgrounds in journalism and computer science, he has developed innovative Web applications for washingtonpost.com, Lawrence.com and LJWorld.com. His personal project chicagocrime.org won the 2005 Batten Award for Innovations in Journalism. He is the co-creator and lead developer of Django , an open-source Web development framework for the Python programming language that is used by tens of thousands of people around the world.
Adrian graduated from the University of Missouri's School of Journalism in 2001. He founded EveryBlock in July 2007, after being awarded a $1.1 million grant from the Knight Foundation as part of the Knight News Challenge. He lives with his wife in Chicago.
