Alberto Cairo is Assistant Professor of Infography and Multimedia at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (USA). He also works as a consultant, adviser, and freelance journalist for media around the world (The New York Times, National Geographic, The Roanoke Times, El Universal, La Tercera, etc.). Periodically, he organizes training workshops for university students and professionals. Since 2005, he has taught in the United States (Texas, North Carolina, Washington, New York); Spain (Madrid, Valencia, Pamplona); Portugal, Switzerland, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, Singapore, South Korea, etc.
Until 2005, Alberto Cairo was Head of Multimedia Infography at elmundo.es (El Mundo, Madrid). From 2001 until he left the paper in 2005, the section headed by Cairo won more international awards (Malofiej, SND, NetMedia) than any other digital publication in the world. At present, Alberto Cairo’s students in Chapel Hill continue to win professional awards thanks to multimedia documentary projects such as: Chasing Crusoe, Atacama Stories and The Ancient Way.
