Álvaro Cassinelli

Alvaro Cassinelli was born in Uruguay in 1972. He obtained an Engineering degree in Telecommunications and a Ph.D in Physics while living in France. He is presently Assistant Professor at the University of Tokyo, where he is actively involved in the development of the Meta-Perception Group (www.k2.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp/perception). His current research interests focuses on new ways to enhance human perception and artistic expression, as well as human-computer interfaces for scientific/medical visualization. He enjoys working in the boundary between Science and Art.

Some recent inventions: Haptic Radar, Smart Laser Scanner, Volume Slicing Display, Parallax Augmented Display (for more information: www.k2.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp/perception/). Mayor exhibitions, performances and awards as Media Artist: 2005- Khronos Projector, Grand Prize (Art Division) at the 9th Japan Media Art Festival. Honorary Mention at Prix Ars Electronic (Interactive Art). 2006 TimeScape, in collaboration with architect Hiroshi Naito. Okamura Design Space, Tokyo. 2007 dis-chorde, audiovisual performance at the Tokyo Museum of Contemporary Art (with Ph. Chatelain and D. Manabe).
