Fernanda Viégas

Fernanda Viégas is a research scientist in IBM’s Visual Communication Lab where her work focuses on social and collaborative aspects of data visualization. Viégas is known for her pioneering work on depicting chat histories and email archives through evocative visualizations. In 2003 Fernanda teamed with Martin Wattenberg to visualize editing archives in Wikipedia, leading to the "history flow" project that revealed the self-healing nature of the online encyclopedia. Her visualization-based artwork has been exhibited in galleries in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, and São Paulo. Viégas holds a Ph.D. from MIT in Media Arts and Sciences.
