Ignacio Sotelo
(Madrid, 1936) Degree in law and classical philology. In 1957 he was tried for illegal association and in 1959 he fled Spain. He has lived in Germany since 1960. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Cologne (Summa cum laude) and is a professor of Political Science at the Berlin Free University and a professor or Sociology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He is also a member of the European Academy of Science and Art.
He has been a contributor to El País since it was founded in 1976, having published more than 600 articles. His books include El socialismo Democrático (Taurus, 1980), Los socialistas en el poder (Ediciones El País, Madrid, 1986), El desplome de la Izquierda: Modalidades españolas del fin de una época (Akal, Madrid, 1994), ¿Sin Dios o con Dios?
