A graduate in Art History from the Universidad de Murcia, Master’s degree in Historical Studies from the Warburg Institute at the University of London and Doctorate in History from Cambridge University (King's College). Since 1997, he has been a professor of Art History and Theory at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He combines studies of the empire and its representations during the early Middle Ages with the critical analysis of contemporary culture and art.
His work includes: Arte in la Red (Madrid: Cátedra, 2003), Naturaleza e Imperio (Madrid: 12 Calles, 2004) and “Tecnología e Imperio” (Madrid: Nivola, 2003), y, as editor, in Modos de hacer: arte crítico, esfera pública and acción directa (Salamanca: Universidad de Salamanca, 2001), Desacuerdos: sobre arte, políticas and esfera pública in el Estado español vols 1, 2 and 3 (Barcelona, 2004-2005).
