José Luis Barrios
After graduating with a Master’s degree and Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, he specialized in studies on aesthetics and art theory. He did an internship at FONCA in the area of Interdisciplina in la VIII edición de Proyectos de Coinversiones. At present he is carrying out doctoral studies in Art History at UNAM, with the project El asco y el morbo o la retórica del espectáculo en el arte contemporáneo. His book, Ensayos de crítica cultural. Una mirada fenomenológica a la contemporaneidad, was published in early 2004. As a curator, his latest exhibits were for the exposition “Mi versión de los hechos sobre la obra de Magali Lara”, at the Museo de Artes y Ciencias de la UNAM and “Armas and herramientas” X Salón Bancomer de Arte Contemporáneo. His most recent publications are the essay …geologías de lo especular, la fotografía de Gerardo Suter el Des (quicio) de los objetos. El mundo de Kati and José Horna in issue 24 of the magazine CURARE. He has been the director of CURARE. Espacio Crítico para la Artes since November 2000 and is a regular contributor to Confabulario, the cultural supplement to the Mexican newspaper, El Universal.
