Paul Friedlander is a Physicist / kinetic light sculptor. His great fascination in life was space travel and astronomy: youthful dreams of building a starship and flying off alone to explore the universe have matured. Today his art is a spaceship for his imagination and his interest in physics and cosmology remain.

Raised in Cambridge on a diet of relativity and black holes, one time aspiring cosmologist and interstellar propulsion expert. Metamorphosed to stage lighting designer, light sculptor and scientific artist.

First degree in physics and mathematics from Sussex University, his personal tutor, Anthony Leggett, subsequently received the Nobel Prize for work on superfluidity.

1995 A prizewinner at the prestigious ARTEC, Japans leading hi-tech art show.

1998 Received the USHIO America Award for Innovation.

Winner of LIGHTFORMS '98 in New York.

2003, 2004 Kinetic Art Organisation Prize Winner.

Exhibited in 3 continents and 12 countries.

His distinctive style first came to prominence in the 1980s as a stage lighting designer for concerts of avant-garde music; subsequently specialising in creating light art combining kinetics with digital in a hybrid artform.
