Shreya Nag started her dance career under the guidance of her Mother Sumitra Nag. She gave her first performance as ‘Radha’ (famous character from Hindu Mythology) at the age of 4 in a dance drama, ‘the Radha-Krishna Leela’. At such an young age, what intrigued her more was how the stories from the Indian Mythologies could be expressed through the subtle dance movements and expressions of the varios Indian classical dance forms, particularly Kathak.
Kathak means ‘To narrate a tale’ and she was greatly inspired by the subtle gestures, the sharp movements, the fast foot work, and above all the combination of dignity with humility the dance has as an essence. She went on to train under the guidance of Guru Vandana Sen of the Lucknow Gharana of Kolkata, followed by Priya Pawar of Jaipur Gharana (London) and at present her journey as a learner continues under the unique style of Guru Shama Bhate of Jaipur Gharana (Pune, India).
Shreya specializes in dance dramas based on Kathak and has performed and choreographed many dance dramas such as Chitrangada (Tagore), Shyama (Tagore) and many others from the Indian Mythology. In Spain she is continuously working on spreading the awareness of Kathak through seminars, intensive sessions, dance dramas which she performs in Spain and worldwide such as in Italy, Uk, Kenya, Tanzania and India. Shreya also has a parallel career as a Business Development Manager for a US based engineering company however, dance is what keeps her going. She believes that to become one with the art so much so that the audience does not know to differentiate between the art and the artist is where true sense of achievement lies.
