The work of artist Xabier Erkizia (Lesaka, Spain, 1975) is based on the search and in-depth exploration of different directions in music and sound. His installation formats, solo performances, group improvisations, and other projects combine different ideas, persons, sounds, materials and experiences. A variety of styles form part of his projects and collaborations, such as rock, electronics, folk, or improvisation, always approached with a view to experimentation. His solo performances and other solo works, in contrast, are more reflective, introspective and minimalist. In addition to his work as an artist, he is a founding member of the ERTZ cultural association, director of the ERTZ “otras músicas” international festival (in its eighth year), director of the sound laboratory at the ARTELEKU contemporary art centre in San Sebastian, co-director of the international sound research project [UN]COMMON SOUNDS, and co-editor of the ARTE SONORO platform. His works have been presented and exhibited in countries including: Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, Peru, Greece, Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany, the USA, and France.
